We all know them as one of the most – if not the most beautiful dog breeds. As a result, huskies are extremely popular and one of the most well-known dog breeds worldwide. But where can you find one for yourself? How long do huskies live? How can you train your husky puppy? Is it even worth it owning a husky in 2023?
Let’s get a deeper look into this beautiful and unique dog breed.
Description
Since huskies were originally found and trained in polar regions to pull sleds as work dogs, their thick coat of fur is no surprise to anyone. Their coat unlike most other dogs consists of two layers, a dense undercoat and a layer consisted of longer, thicker hair which keeps them warm in the winter and cool during the summer by reflecting the heat. Its color consists of white, grey, and black (as depicted in the photo below) while the pattern on their fur can vary from husky to husky.
Their most well-known and unique characteristic, however, is not their fur but their eyes. Huskies possess some of the most beautiful deep blue eyes you can find in the animal kingdom. It is their bright, expressive eyes that set them apart from all other dog breeds.
Weight and Height
As for their size, huskies are just about average when it comes to dog breeds.
Height:
Male huskies can grow anywhere from 21 to 25 inches tall (53 to 60 centimeters) while females tend to be a bit smaller with their height ranging from 20 to 23 inches (51 to 56 centimeters).
Weight:
Male huskies weigh anywhere from 40 to 60 pounds (20 to 27 kilos) while females typically weigh a little less with their weight ranging from 30 to 50 pounds (16 to 23 kilos).
How Long Do Huskies Live?
A husky’s lifespan normally ranges from 12 to 15 years. Obviously, there can always be exceptions and some huskies are known to live well over 15 years. This obviously also depends on the treatment and care your dog receives so if you wish to maximize your husky’s lifespan make sure to regularly do checkups at the vet, feed it good high quality dog food, and play with it or take it on enough walks.
Husky Dog Price
Purchasing a husky from a professional breeder will set you back anywhere from 500 to 1200 dollars. However, the true cost of owning one of these dogs is much higher, so make sure you are prepared to pay for food, toys, equipment, and a vet bill.
If you are set on getting yourself a Husky, we would recommend asking any friends or acquaintances if they themselves have or if they know someone who has a husky that is ready to give birth. You should also check your local dog shelter just in case you find a husky to adopt. These methods are far cheaper and better than purchasing a puppy from your local breeder so it would be advised to try them out first.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
Husky Is A Good, Nonviolent Natured Breed.
In general huskies are outgoing dogs which enjoy company and can easily socialize with humans and other dogs. They are friendly, patient and loving and will form a strong bond with their owners. In addition, they are also less suspicious and aggressive towards strangers so no need to worry next time you have your friends over.
Huskies Are Playful And Agile Dogs
Since these dogs were used to pull sleighs for miles in the harshest of environments, it is no surprise that they possess unmatched stamina. They will gladly and tirelessly run or play outside and as you probably imagine they are great camping or running partners.
They Are Adaptable To Different Weather Conditions
Since they originally came from polar regions, huskies are obviously not affected by the cold, ice, or snow. What is impressive however, is their ability to adapt and thrive in warm climates thanks to their fur growing shorter or longer depending on their location.
They Are Independent Dogs
If you want a dog that will not invade your personal space or constantly whine for attention, then huskies are the perfect dogs for you. Once huskies mature, they become independent and dignified. This, however, does not mean that they will become any less friendly or aggressive towards you and people in general.
They Are Extremely Clean Dogs
Huskies are by far one of the cleanest dog breeds there is. You will face no issues with drool or saliva, not much hair and above all no doggy odors. Huskies have the tendency to lick themselves just like cats and as a result can avoid most of the unpleasant dog smell.
They Are Intelligent Dogs
`When compared to some of the other dog breeds, huskies are some of the most intelligent dogs out there. Thanks to their intelligence, they are quick learners and can be easily trained by you.

They Have Great Personalities
Think about the ideal personality you would like your dog to have. Well, huskies probably have all those character traits you wish for. They are loyal, friendly, and affectionate towards humans and other living being in general.
In addition, they can be protective when they feel like they or their owners are threatened which makes them great companions for children or elderly people.
Cons:
You Will Have To Purchase A Variety Of Toys
Huskies are in need of mental simulation to prevent themselves from becoming bored so it is important to provide them with a wide variety of toys to make sure they can occupy themselves. This will not cost you much, but it is a must if you plan on owning a husky.
You should look out for toys such as:
- The mammoth cotton blend five knot rope toy for endless tug of war games.

They Require Large Amounts Of Exercise
